HEIC to JPG or PNG: what the conversion keeps

Use a HEIC converter when a recipient or upload form cannot open your photo. Choose JPG for a conventional photo file, or PNG when a lossless export of the decoded pixels is required.

Why this tool loads a decoder

JustToolset loads a browser-side WebAssembly decoder built from libheif to read supported HEIC/HEIF input. The codec is a site asset; the selected photo is processed on your device. The libheif project provides the underlying HEIF decoding library.

One main image, not the whole photo container

The converter selects the primary image, or the first decodable image when no primary image is identified. It does not export a burst, depth data, motion, or the original HDR representation. The resulting JPG or PNG contains re-encoded image pixels; original metadata is removed. Keep the HEIC original if those properties matter.

Choose the output and verify it

JPG quality changes the trade-off between visual detail and size. PNG has no quality slider and may produce a much larger file. Neither option guarantees an exact match to a phone gallery’s color or HDR display.

  1. Open HEIC to JPG or HEIC to PNG and choose a supported file.
  2. Keep the original dimensions, or enable optional resizing and inspect the planned dimensions.
  3. Convert and check orientation, colors, dimensions and actual file size before sharing.

If the image cannot be opened

The displayed byte and pixel limits apply before conversion. HEIC also needs the browser features used by the decoder, including OffscreenCanvas. Try an updated browser or export a standard JPG from the source device when decoding fails; changing .heic to .jpg in the filename will not repair the file.
